An exciting opportunity for a talented senior lawyer with a working knowledge of the Low Carbon markets to join the UK Trading & Shipping (T&S) team of one of the world's 'supermajor' energy companies as they continue their transition from traditional sources of power into renewable and low carbon energy sources. Renewable power, bio-gas and low carbon products are central to the business's new strategy and net carbon ambitions and as such the dedicated legal team is experiencing ever increasing demands for its services.
Reporting to the Managing Counsel for the Gas, Power & Low Carbon Trading team, you will provide vital legal support to the T&S team in respect of its international low carbon trading business, as they trade and source low carbon products around the world. In this varied role you will also provide legal support for M&A activity including equity investments into joint ventures and convertible loan structures as well as act as the key legal support for all carbon market regulatory developments.
Ideally, you will be 8+ PQE with strong post-qualification experience in a reputable law firm and/or as an in-house counsel (working in the power industry). Experience of the voluntary and compliance carbon offsets market will be essential for this role as well as an understanding of the Paris Agreement and key carbon ownership considerations. The ideal candidate will be an effective operator, confident in providing prompt and commercially focused advice in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
